How receiving a headspa service not only changed my haircare routine, but my entire career.

I first walked into Desert Rain Hair Studio in Scottsdale Arizona, desperate for relief from constant scalp irritation. I never imagined that a single headspa session would transform not only my haircare routine but also the direction of my career. If you are struggling with scalp issues, stress-related hair loss, or even postpartum hair thinning, my story might offer some hope and practical insights.

Discovering the power of a headspa

After being victimized by my consistently itchy, irritated scalp, I decided to visit an acquaintance in Arizona that offered headspa services as a birthday treat to myself. I remember thinking it was a little pricy, but boy was it worth every penny; and I'd pay it again and again. The experience was unlike any hair treatment I had before. Even as a hairstylist, I had a lot to learn about my scalp. Not only did I learn WHY I was having issues and HOW to fix it, but I also felt more pampered than I thought was possible. Every detail was accounted for. Hot towels, head and neck massage, custom curated tools, a choice of essential oils and treatment scents, and so much more. After drifting into a blissful trance over the course of this hour long service, I could barely wake up enough to drive back to the hotel. (rest assured I was safe, but this illustrates how relaxed I became.)

What stood out was how the treatment addressed the root causes of my hair problems rather than just the symptoms. A lot of my irritation was coming from a lack of exfoliation, meaning my follicles were getting clogged. This prevented hair growth and in turn created discomfort and a buildup of flakes.  The specific cleansing techniques removed buildup that was clogging my hair follicles, something I had never considered in my previous haircare routine. The scalp massage improved blood circulation, which I later learned is crucial for healthy hair growth.

How headspa changed my haircare routine

Before this transformative experience, my routine was basic: shampoo, conditioner, and occasional styling products. After the session, I realized that scalp health is the foundation of beautiful hair. Here are the key changes I made:

  • Incorporating scalp massages: I started massaging my scalp more thoroughly during washes. I also regularly implement serums and scalp oils to pretreat for buildup. This helped reduce dryness and improved circulation.

  • Double shampooing and adding a scalp centric shampoo: By neglecting to double shampoo, I wasn't actually getting the buildup off my scalp. I now shampoo twice: once with a gentle cleanser, and once with biolage scalp sync to treat the itch.

  • Regular deep cleansing treatments: I now try to schedule monthly headspa sessions to keep my scalp clean and balanced.

These changes not only improved my hair’s appearance but also reduced scalp itchiness and flakiness. The confidence boost was incredible.

The transformation in my hair and scalp health sparked a new passion. I became fascinated with the science behind scalp care and hair health, researching products and techniques to implement into the services I provide in my salon.

Today, I own a private salon suite in Daybreak/South Jordan, helping others who face similar challenges. My personal experience allows me to connect deeply with clients and recommend treatments that truly work.

Why headspa treatments matter for postpartum haircare: a prevalent experience in Utah

Postpartum hair loss affects nearly 40-50% of new mothers, often leaving them feeling frustrated and self-conscious. Hormonal shifts cause hair follicles to enter a resting phase, leading to shedding. Stress and lack of sleep can worsen the problem.

Headspa treatments offer a gentle, natural way to support hair regrowth during this vulnerable time. They:

  • Stimulate blood flow to hair follicles

  • Remove buildup that blocks hair growth

  • Nourish the scalp with essential oils and nutrients

  • Provide relaxation that reduces stress-related hair loss

  • Allow for deep analysis and tracking of hair loss symptoms

For anyone navigating postpartum haircare, visiting Wolfe Beauty Co. for a treatment is a must!

  • Massage your scalp for 5 minutes daily using your fingertips or a scalp brush.

  • Avoid overwashing hair; 2-3 times a week is usually enough.

  • Double shampoo and use products recommended by your headspa specialist (I always have great recs for you!)

  • Use lukewarm water instead of hot water to prevent dryness.

  • Choose haircare products free from sulfates, parabens, and harsh chemicals.

  • Eat a balanced diet rich in vitamins like biotin, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids.

  • Manage stress through mindfulness, exercise, or hobbies.
